The WTF adjusts the standards for forms, stances, and blocks periodically. It is important to Master Misael that his students and instructors stay current with these standards. Master Misael never stops learning, ensuring his own students learn from him in accordance with the World Taekwondo Federation's current standards and guidelines.

What an amazing celebration of community! The whole school gathered at The Sheraton Chapel Hill to celebrate the Academy's 2nd birthday. The day's events inlcuded a color belt test, a series of martial arts demonstrations performed by Academy members as well as visting teams, and the Golden Eagle Charity Fundraiser. The fundraiser was an incredible success - meeting our goal to raise $4000.00 for afterschool scholarships for at-risk elementary school children!!
Master Misael was joined at the head table by Master Ron Whitted, President of the NCTO, Sifu Jason of Goldsmith Kung Fu & MMA, Owners/Instructors Tracy Long and Shannon Edwards of Ultimate Martial Arts, Owner/Instructor Alvis Smith of Lion's Martial Arts, and Owner/Instructor Antonio Ara of Taekwondo & Fitness Academy.

NCTO Sponsered Poomsae Seminar
with Grandmaster Hsu
May 5th & 6th 2011
Grandmaster Hsu and Master MisaelThe Academy was honored to be selected as the host school for this seminar and to be the only martial arts school in NC to welcome Grandmaster Hsu all the way from San Antonio, Texas. Master Ron, head of the NCTO, organized this special forms event as part of an effort to provide North Carolina Taekwondo athletes and referees with the very best martial arts training available.
Grandmaster Hsu's credentials are in an elite class of internationally respected martial artists and include being the referee for World Taekwondo Federation Forms Championships 2008-2011. He holds a 7th degrees black belt. Essentially, to any student serious about Poomsae, in particular for competition, Grandmaster Hsu is the USA's resident expert.
Master Misael was extremely pleased for his students, including most of the Eagles Team, to have this rare opportunity to train with a forms Grandmaster. Master Misael himself took the seminar. Forms standards and competiton scoring practices have changed and Grandmaster Hsu is the leading authority on these standards. Now Master Misael can bring the benefits of his continuing education to his students in class.

The seminar was a highly informative, intense learning event for all. Everyone who attended came away from the weekend gratified.

Annual Academy Halloween Party! - October 29, 2010
Dressed to impress...or scare, academy families celebrated the spookiest holiday of the year together. The dojang was filled with ninjas (even a ninja pumpkin), pirates, princesses, vampires, and superheros. Everyone brought a dish to share, and many brought their carved pumpkins for the Jack-O-Lantern contest. It was a great night of community, games, and frightful fun!

Children's Self-Defense Seminar/Pizza & Movie Night
October 15, 2010
Master Rebollar taught an Anti-Abduction/Bully-Avoidance class followed by pizza and a movie. The kids learned important, practical methods to protect themselves in real-life, threatening situations and then relaxed together and enjoyed the show. Parents enjoyed a night out while their kids had an educational and entertaining evening in at the academy.

Teen & Adult Martial Arts Day Camp - September 25, 2010
A group of 18 academy teens and adults in a wide range of ages and belt ranks completed a day-long, intensive, martial arts workshop with Master Rebollar and Instructor Garcia. The workshop included power breathing, meditation, and deep stretching, followed by a strenuous workout, sparring drills, hapkido, and weapons self-defense techniques. We trained at the academy in the morning, broke for lunch together (a big lunch!), and then traveled in the academy van to a sister school, Instructor Garcia's academy, in Liberty, NC for the afternoon activities. The day was challenging, instructive, and above all FUN!

Students of all ages tested for high-white through red belts. They demonstrated their mastery of kicks, forms, self defenses, sparring, and breaking for their level. Academy belt tests are exciting to watch and they are open to the public. If you wish to attend a future belt test contact Master Rebollar.
Karate Kid Weekend! - June 11th - 13th, 2010
Friday night movie & pizza at the academy!Friday, June 11th 6:30-8:30 PM, families joined Master Rebollar for pizza and a viewing of the original Karate Kid.
Prior to watching the movie students performed a martial arts demonstration for the rest of the school. They were practicing for their demonstration the next day, June 12th, at Timberlyne Theater before a showing of the new Karate Kid film. The team performed a new form, self-defenses, falls, nunchakus, and board breaks.
Sunday, June 13th we all met at Timberlyne Theater to see a matinée of the new Karate Kid movie together. It truly was a Karate Kid weekend!
Academy Birthday Pool Party! - June 5th, 2010
Cutting the birthday cake - with a sword, of course!To fully acknowledge an amazing year of training together all academy families were invited to Master Rebollar's for an afternoon of swimming, grilling-out, and birthday cake. There were no push-ups, leg lifts, or crunches on this day, just a lot of splashing around and having fun! In the last twelve months the academy has grown into a very large community; we have a newly-minted class of black belts and growing classes of color belts in all ranks. This was an evening to celebrate our school and the community that has grown from it. Everyone had a fantastic time!

Games, Pizza, and Movie Night! March 26th, 2010
This evening evening was just for fun. We train hard on the mat every week. On this night we played hard instead! Master Rebollar and the kids played games and then relaxed with pizza and a movie. All academy students were invited and some even brought siblings and friends. Everyone loves Pizza & Movie Night. Parents had Friday date-night while their kids had a fantastic time at the dojang. There will be many more events like this throughout the year.
